In SEO, link building is something that should be accounted for in any online marketing campaign. If you don’t know what link building is, it’s a strategy that lets other websites link to one of your pages on your website. Of course, this gets more complex as we digest what link building is and the best practices to use. And that’s why I’ve created this guide for you today so you can digest the necessary information for best practice, when it comes to link building.
Let’s start off with the top 5 Do’s of link building:
Create valuable content that earns links
So, what is valuable content? Valuable content is a content rich blog post that has added S.E.O elements so you become an authority in your niche. Once you’ve created valuable content, you’re more likely to receive links from other websites redirecting their viewers to you! This may sound like a mouth full, but as long as you’re following the steps in this S.E.O elements guide for on page S.E.O, you’ll be well on your way to having a S.E.O optimized blog post that earns links!
Have your current and past clients linking out to you
This may sound obvious, but it’s an advantage against your competitors who aren’t doing it. Depending on your clients whether they are big or small on Google’s search engine, the link gained from them would be 10 times better than some crappy spam link. The best part about getting links from your clients is that once you ask, they are sure to say yes!
Email Outreach/Guest post
Email outreach is the best way to attain links from other businesses/influencers/online directories/references. The only downside to this strategy is that it takes a lot of cold emailing. But as long as you provide something of value and interest to the person you are trying to reach, you can offer to do a mini guest post on their website which can ultimately link to your site!
P.S. this is an SEO secret:
When doing email outreach, try to stay away from websites that aren’t relevant to your niche. For best practice when it comes to link building, only reach out to websites that have a higher domain authority than you and who are in your niche!
Use social media
Social media isn’t the end all be all for business’s online, but it’s a strategy that you should be implementing in your business’s online marketing strategy by now. Links from social media aren’t that valuable to Google, but it does pave the way for readers of your blog or followers on your social channels to visit something they haven’t seen from you yet. If they’re curious enough to read your blog posts then they’ll be curious enough to visit your social channels and vice versa.
Join your Chamber of Commerce
This sounds silly, since I said not to get links from irrelevant websites. But, your chamber of commerce is most likely a high authority site which can link to your website and social channels as soon as you join! You can also create your profile and view other businesses who are chamber members. In my experience, when I joined the chamber and created my profile, I was getting more visits to my website and I was getting calls to discuss my services. Joining your chamber is a great stepping stone.
If you aren’t tech savvy then this one won’t be on your to do list. Simply put, cloaking is manipulation of Google’s search engine, to mask what you’ve hidden in your content. We could get into all the technical mumbo jumbo, but I’d rather not, as cloaking is a black hat tactic and if caught you can be penalized by Google.
Quick, temporary links
If you’ve ever received calls or emails suggesting that they can build links for you fast, run. You are just wasting your money. Of course, there are ways that build “quick” links for your website, but most of the time, these are spammy 8 second YouTube videos or other worthless links that will fall down Google’s search engine. Also, who would want to watch an 8 second spammy YouTube video?
Paid Link Building
I advise against paid links. The reason being is because you might not know if the website linking to your page is trustworthy. I suggest that you do your research if you are interested in this, but I don’t recommend it, since you might be getting spammy links from websites that aren’t relevant and that don’t have a high domain authority.
Writing Crappy Blog Posts
If you want people to be reaching out to you, you better make it a priority to become an authority! Meaning, write 1000 to 3000 keyword rich blogs posts every month that answers people’s questions! If you aren’t willing to put in the necessary commitment on making your website an authority then you won’t rise in Google’s search engine. It’s best to stick to best practice and do what’s necessary to achieve your goal, or else your competitors will.
Any other manipulation of Google’s Search Engine
This just doesn’t revolve around link building but around the whole of your website. If you want quick ways to get exposure from online marketing, then I suggest PPC ads. Search engine optimization is a long-term marketing strategy that pays off in the end if you’re doing it right.
S.E.O can be simple if you follow white hat strategies. Rather than toying around with temporary fixes, look ahead and see the long-term progress. Once you create valuable content worth reading you can then reach out to relevant websites, competitors, influencers, which in turn makes link building much more fruitful in the end. Combine that will social media and you will have an awesomely amazing SEO strategy that will make you the best in your niche.
